TERMS OF SERVICE. Big Man's Moving company takes moving your personal belongings very seriously. Preparation and proper planning is the key to a successful move. Included in every move is our clean equipment, moving truck, straps, bungee chords, hand trucks, dollies, stretch wrap and high quality blankets to protect your items. Unless we agreed on packing services prior, the customer is to have everything boxed, sealed and ready to go. If the customer's items are not wrapped, boxed or sealed when we arrive extra charges will apply or the client will have to take them in their personal vehicle.
Fragile Items: Unless we agreed on packing services, all fragile items such as glass, pictures, mirrors, televisions, lamps, china, kitchenware and anything else breakable must be boxed or wrapped really well with large 1/2" bubble wrap and packing paper. The only glass item the customer doesn't need to prepare is a thick glass kitchen table, we will handle that. If these fragile items are not prepared to our standard using packing paper and large 1/2" bubble wrap, the customer will be responsible for taking all of them in their personal vehicle. If the customer refuses to take these unprotected fragile items in their personal vehicle or allows us to put them on our trucks, they agree to waive full liability for any damage that could occur with these unprepared fragile items. Labeling a box "FRAGILE" without properly packing the contents inside isn't sufficient. In the situation something fragile would get damaged due to not being protected properly or packed by us, the customer would also forfeit the right to create any negative publicity over these items to include negative online reviews/submissions. Big Man's Moving Company is not liable for any damage to any of these fragile items or for the content inside of any box/container unless the customer paid for our additional packing services and we packed the item in question. Furniture or any item with drawers: All dressers, night stands, desks, or any item with drawers must be emptied in advance so we can wrap them and take them to the truck. Leaving clothing/items inside can result in damage to the legs if we have to tip the dresser up to fit it through tight turns or down stairways. Upon arrival, if one of these items are not emptied we will point it out and the customer will be responsible for emptying/boxing up the items in the drawers or taking the drawers out and putting them in a personal vehicle. If the customer doesn't empty these items we are not liable for any damage that may occur.
Appliances: Washers/Dryers/Refrigerators/Dishwashers must be completely disconnected by the client unless other arrangements were requested prior. Big Man's Moving Company is not liable for any interior mechanical issues, leaking valves or any plumbing related issues that might exist with the washer/dryer/refrigerator/dishwasher before6 or after a move. The homeowners is responsible for shutting off their water vales properly when an appliance is disconnected. We move all of these larger items with the proper equipment in a very slow and careful manner. **Appliances may incur an extra fee."*
Baby Grand Pianos, Treadmills and Large Safes: We will move both of these items if and only if photos, make and model are supplied ahead of time. We do not disassemble or reassemble any treadmills. If they won't fit through the doorways, we will not move them and they will stay in the room they are currently in. The customer is to call a specialist to assist with assembly/disassembly of a treadmill prior to and after the move is complete. **Pianos/Treadmills/Safes may incur an extra fee.**
Jewelry, money, firearms, ammunition, gas cans, propane tanks, paint, flammables or valuable items: The client is to move all of these things in their personal vehicles. We don't move any of these things. If the client requests us to move a jewelry box, they are to empty it ahead of time and take the jewelry in their personal vehicle. We are not responsible for any missing jewelry and we do not open up jewelry boxes to take inventory of what is present or missing prior to the move.
Televisions: Any TVs we are moving must be boxed or we will not move them. The customer is responsible for providing a TV box and or tape if they want us to put the TV in the box for them. If the customer wraps or boxes their TV up prior to our inspection, Big Man's Moving Company is not liable for any damage caused to that TV. If the customer wants us to bring TV boxes they must request this at least 72 hours ahead of time so we can come prepared and apply the additional charges to the invoice. If the customer insists on us taking their TV without it being boxed or wrapped they waive full liability for any damage caused to that unprotected TV during the move.
Mattresses/Box Springs: All mattresses and box springs should have mattress bags on them prior to putting them on the truck if the customer wants to ensure they remain spotless or in the pristine condition. We will put the mattress bags on for the customer if they supply them. The customer must notify us at least 72 hours prior if we need to supply mattress bags so we can come prepared and apply the additional charges to the invoice. If the customer doesn't notify us or supply mattress bags, Big Man's Moving Company is not liable for any scuffs or stains that may occur to these items during the move.
Specialty Beds: Any specialty mattresses like Tempur-Pedic or Sleep Number beds with the electronic bases need special care. We simply unplug the power chords, wrap them and move them assembled. We are not liable for any mechanical issues or if anything gets unplugged during the move. If the customer wants to ensure everything works on both ends they should have the manufacturer disassemble/assemble these specialty beds prior to the move.
Armoires/Curio Cabinets/Secretaries/Desks/China Cabinets/Hutches/Buffets: All of these items above must be emptied prior to our arrival and the glass shelving must be bubble wrapped by the customer with the thick 1" bubble wrap multiple times over. See the section above regarding fragile items for more information on what is expected. If any of these items have a thin veneer or solid stone/granite/marble top we recommend the customer protecting the corners with foam furniture corner protectors you can buy at most department stores so the corners/edges stay protected during the move. Many of these stones are not strong on the edges like solid wood leaving them more vulnerable to chipping or cracking.
Lawn/Patio Furniture/Potted Plants: By law, we can't move live plants. We will move the bases of the plants by themselves if the bases are clean and boxed up/protected. If a vase or pot is not boxed up & protected and put in our truck we are not liable for any damage due to the bumps and vibrations during transit. These bumps and vibrations make it easy for these fragile items to crack or tip over & break.
Additional Cleaning Fee: All furniture must be wiped, vacuumed, dusted or cleaned otherwise a $100 cleaning fee will be added to your move. We protect all of your furniture in our clean truck with our clean/high-quality blankets. If our truck or our blankets get full of pet hair, dirt or dust we have to immediately go to a commercial laundry facility to wash 50+ large blankets and the inside of our truck.
Antique/Old Items: The client is responsible for disclosing any old, antique, fragile, broken, damaged or flimsy furniture prior to the move. If our team deems an item to be "at risk", the client will be presented with 2 options: 1. The client will move the piece of furniture with their personal vehicle. 2. We carefully carry those items and place them safely in our truck. If these "at risk" items fall apart during transit for any reason, Big Man's Moving Company is not liable for any damage done to those pieces of furniture.
Artificial Wood: Big Man's Moving Company is not responsible for any damage done to any item of furniture made of artificial wood. Often times these pieces are weak, unstable and artificial wood is impossible to repair. Real wood is strong, hard to damage and easy to repair.
Furniture Assembly/Disassembly: If the customer requests we disassemble any furniture, they are to provide us with instruction on how to put any item back together in the situation where it is too complicated to remember. Big Man's Moving Company is not liable for the assembly of any furniture unless all of the hardware is present and in good condition along with an instruction manual. If any of the current hardware is damaged, stripped or missing we will point this out to the client on the job. This scenario might result in an item not being able to be moved if we can't take it apart safely.
Customer wants to assist with the move: If the customer wishes to help with their move, they are allowed to move things they can carry by themselves. They are not to pick an item up with an employee of Big Man's Moving Company. If they encourage an employee to pickup an item with them and that item gets dropped or damaged, we are not liable for that item. The customer may not enter the moving truck at any time. The customer can set things down that they can carry to the outside of the truck, out of the way of our walkway/ramp. If the customer sets an item on the truck ramp or walkway they will be responsible for any injury or damage caused to that item or an employee. If the customer drops an item or sets it somewhere that isn't stable/safe, we are not liable for any damage to that item.
Cancelling/Rescheduling: Any cancellation within 10 days of the customer's moving date requires a moving cancellation fee. If the move was estimated for 2 movers the cancellation fee is $100. If the move was quoted for 3 movers the cancellation fee would be $150. The cancellation fee is $50 x the number of movers estimated. This cancellation fee is to be paid via phone with a credit/debit card. If we collected a credit/debit card deposit to reserve your move it is 100% transferable and refundable as long as we are notified at least 10 days prior to your move with any schedule changes. In the situation of a cancellation, if a voicemail, conversation or email isn't documented at least 10 days prior to the moving date, the client forfeits their entire deposit to Big Man's Moving Company.
Payment Terms: All balances on moves are to be paid in cash upon completion of the move unless discussed otherwise ahead of time. Withholding any amount of payment other than the full balance for any reason is not acceptable. Big Man's Moving Company does not accept personal checks.
Customer Tardiness: Here are a few scenarios where the customer would be charged a fee for being tardy. In the event we show up and the customer is not home yet or if we have to wait for the customer at their new home before we can unload. If we finish a job and the customer has to go to the bank to get cash while we wait or follow them. If we are finished loading the truck and we are waiting for the customer to finish packing/boxing/sealing items. See our additional hourly rate in the section below if you have any questions.
Inaccurate Item List On A Flat Rate/All-Inclusive Move: In the event we agree to a flat rate/all inclusive move and the customer has extra items to move, they will be billed hourly in addition to the agreed upon flat rate. The extra time is calculated by putting everything you disclosed on your item list into our truck first. Once all of your item list is on our truck, the clock starts for the additional items the customer requests we move. The hourly rate for moving additional items not disclosed is $70 per person per hour plus a fuel charge at $1 per mile if an additional trip is needed. The reason this rate is a lot higher than our normal hourly rate is because this situation often has a negative impact on our business and employees. Many times this makes us late for other moves or forces us to work much later than expected, interfering with our personal lives. The clock for moving additional items starts as soon as we have every item on the truck we initially agreed upon. The customer was emailed a copy of their list prior to their move and is responsible for reviewing and approving that document. We encourage all of our customers that choose the flat/all-inclusive rate to be very detailed with what they have so this situation can be avoided.
Estimate or Invoice not approved or reviewed by the customer ahead of time: Big Man's Moving Company provides every customer a copy of their invoice/estimate to review and approve prior to their move. Many times our customers don't read it or approve it. When the customer provides us with a credit card deposit prior to their move, they automatically agree to the terms of service outlined above.
Failure to pay or insufficient funds: In the event a customer refuses to pay for a service rendered, under any circumstance, they understand that Big Man's Moving Company has the right to and will file a "construction/laborers lien" against their home until payment is received. If any form of payment received by the customer is cancelled or denied for any reason, and not settled immediately by the customer, Big Man's Moving Company will take the customer to small claims court. According to Florida law, the customer can be liable for up to 3x the amount of the original balance due.
Floors: If a customer has hard wood floors or any flooring material that can scratch easily, the customer is required to have coasters or pads under their furniture so we can safely move their items away from the wall, prepare the item and safely lift it out of their home. If the customer does not have pads under their furniture, Big Man's Moving Company is not liable for any damage to the customer's flooring that may be caused by moving/shifting an item before we are able to safely prepare/lift it out of the home.
Walls/Doors/Door frames: If a customer has large/heavy/awkward items that need to be moved through tight hallways or doorways there is a chance these items won't fit without rubbing the wall, door or door jam. Big Man's Moving Company takes extra precaution moving these items as safely and slowly as we can. If the item is too large to fit without rubbing the wall, door or door frame Big Man's Moving Company is not responsible for any minor scratches, dents or paint scuffing that may occur. These situations are all very easy for the homeowner to fix with some drywall Spackle, sand paper and paint.
Customer Property: Big Man's Moving Company LLC. is not liable for any damage to water lines or sprinkler heads that are not pointed out or disclosed ahead of time. The customer is to come outside and show us where to park the truck and point out any potential hazards on their property. Often times, we are backing our large moving trucks into small driveways having to cut into a bit of grass/lawn to safely park the truck from obstructing the flow of traffic on the road.
Insurance of items: The customer can't withhold payment of their move if accidental damage occurs. The customer is to pay for the full balance of their move upon completion and follow the outlined steps below. The item in questions has to comply with the terms above to receive any benefit for accidental damage. Every customer is to read Florida Statute 507.04 Requirement insurance coverages; liability limitations;valuation coverage. Big Man's Moving Company LLC. complies with the state requirements to insure any negligent damage we cause to a customer's belongings with a replacement value of 60 cents per pound. This 60 cents per pound of coverage is based off of the current weight of an item. The item in question has to comply with our terms stated above to qualify for this insurance. This insurance can only be claimed if it is documented via email to email@example.com on the day of the move. Once reported, the customer is responsible for providing the proper documentation requested to receive the 60 cents per pound benefit. Big Man's Moving Company is not liable for any damage that may happen while the customer is unpacking and going through their belongings after the fact. Any claim of damage to anything including the customer's property must be reported in a similar matter on the day of the move otherwise Big Man's Moving Company is not liable.
Optional Valuation Insurance: Every customer has the option to inquire/purchase our optional valuation insurance. If purchased by the customer, our valuation insurance will be on a separate line item on the invoice at an agreed upon price depending on the quality of the furniture. If the valuation insurance is not outlined on a separate line item on our invoice the customer did not purchase this optional insurance. This insurance goes above and beyond the state requirement of 60 cents per pound and covers the current market value of an item with up to $1000 in replacement coverage. The current market value is determined by the customer providing us with the original receipt of purchase, less depreciation based on age and condition. The item in question has to comply with our terms stated above to qualify for this valuation insurance. The valuation insurance can only be claimed if it is documented via email to firstname.lastname@example.org on the day of the move. Once reported, the customer is responsible for providing the proper documentation requested to receive the valuation benefit. Big Man's Moving Company is not liable for any damage that may happen while the customer is unpacking and going through their belongings after the fact.
